Lip Flip

A lip flip does not change the size of the lip, but slightly alters its shape. A few units at the edge of the orbicular muscle let the upper lip roll slightly outward — revealing more of the lip that is already there.

Mechanism

How the treatment works

The orbicular muscle surrounds the mouth and draws the lip margins inward when you speak and smile. A few units of botulinum toxin at its upper edge weaken precisely that pull. The upper lip rolls slightly outward and shows more of itself, without any material being introduced. The dose stays deliberately low — too much would affect speech and drinking.

The treatment procedure

We first assess your smile in motion, since only then does the strength of the muscle show. Four to six fine injections along the lip margin follow. No anaesthesia is needed. We see you for a follow-up after about two weeks.

Aftercare

After the treatment

No massaging of the lips and no sports for the rest of the day. Speech can feel briefly unfamiliar in the first week; this settles on its own.

Risks and side effects

Small bruises at the injection points are possible. Certain sounds, whistling, or drinking from a bottle can feel unfamiliar for a time. With too high a dose the upper lip can look asymmetrical — this resolves completely. If you are prone to cold sores, prophylactic aciclovir is advisable; please mention it to us beforehand.

Contraindications

Not suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with disorders of neuromuscular transmission, with known hypersensitivity to components of the product, or with acute inflammation in the treatment area. Anyone who depends professionally on precise articulation — singing, wind instruments, speaking professions — should raise this beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

Will my lip become bigger?

No. No material is introduced. More of the lip becomes visible because it turns outward rather than inward. For actual volume we recommend hyaluronic acid — and the two can be combined.

How long does the result last?

Two to three months, so shorter than a wrinkle treatment. The muscle around the mouth is constantly in motion and breaks the product down correspondingly faster.

Can I speak and drink normally afterwards?

As a rule, yes. Some describe an unfamiliar sensation when whistling or drinking from a bottle in the first week. We dose deliberately low so that this stays the exception.
