Downturned mouth corners can make a face read as stern or dissatisfied even when the mood is entirely different. A small muscle at the side of the chin is responsible, and its pull can be selectively reduced.

Mechanism
How the treatment works
The depressor anguli oris muscle pulls the mouth corner downward. Reducing its pull at a defined point lets the opposing elevator prevail — the corner lifts by a few millimetres. Speaking, eating, and smiling remain unaffected.
Procedure
The treatment procedure
Assessment first establishes how far the mouth corner sits downward at rest and how it behaves in motion. Two to three injections per side are then placed at precisely defined points. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.
Aftercare
After the treatment
Remain upright for a few hours, avoid massaging the mouth area, no sports or sauna on the day of treatment.
Risks and side effects
Mild redness, swelling, or small bruises at the injection sites are possible. Imprecise placement can lead to a temporarily asymmetric smile.
Contraindications
Not suitable for certain neuromuscular disorders, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in the presence of infections in the treatment area.

Is muscular treatment alone enough?
That depends on how much volume loss already exists around the mouth corner. If the descent is predominantly muscular, relaxing the muscle suffices. Where structural loss is also present, a combination with hyaluronic acid is often discussed.
