Mechanism

How the treatment works

The platysma and the muscles that lift the lower jaw work against one another. Where the platysma dominates, the jawline travels downward. Botulinum toxin selectively weakens the lowering fibres while the lifting muscles carry on unchanged. The balance shifts upward — hence the name Nefertiti lift, after the bust with its clearly drawn jawline. Taut bands on the neck are relaxed the same way.

Procedure

The treatment procedure

We assess the muscle under tension, since only then do the course and strength of the bands show. The product is then placed in many small depots along the bands and, for the Nefertiti lift, additionally beneath the jaw margin. No anaesthesia is needed. After two weeks we review the result and adjust if needed.

Aftercare

After the treatment

No sports, sauna, or massaging of the neck for the rest of the day. Avoid lying flat for the first four hours.

Risks and side effects

Redness, tenderness, and small bruises at the injection points are possible. Rarely, a feeling of heaviness in the neck, difficulty swallowing, or temporary weakness when lifting the head occur — which is why the product is placed superficially and in small amounts. These effects resolve completely.

Contraindications

Not suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with disorders of neuromuscular transmission, with existing swallowing difficulties, with known hypersensitivity to components of the product, or with inflammation in the treatment area. Where skin has clearly lost its firmness the method reaches its limit; a surgical assessment is then advisable.

Does this replace a neck lift?

No. The treatment releases the pull of the muscle and thereby sharpens the contour. It cannot remove excess skin. Where skin has clearly lost its firmness we say so plainly and recommend a surgical assessment.

What is the difference between the platysma treatment and the Nefertiti lift?

The platysma treatment relaxes the visible bands on the neck. The Nefertiti lift additionally treats the fibres pulling down along the jaw margin — which is where the effect on the contour comes from. Which one suits you follows from assessing the muscle under tension.

How long does the result last?

Three to four months. The neck is constantly in motion, so the product breaks down somewhat faster than in the upper face.
