Masseter & Teeth Grinding
Overactivity of the masseter muscle often causes nighttime teeth grinding, jaw tension, and headaches — and can also widen the lower-jaw contour.
This treatment is carried out on a medical indication. Its primary aim is symptom relief; an aesthetic change usually follows in the form of a narrower jawline. Billing is private — treatments cannot be settled through Swiss basic health insurance.

Indications
What this treatment is suited for
- Nocturnal teeth grinding (bruxism)
- Jaw tension and accompanying headaches
- A wish for a slimmer lower jaw contour
Mechanism
How the treatment works
Targeted relaxation of the masseter muscle reduces hypertonicity, relieving jaw tension and refining the lower-jaw contour.
Procedure
The treatment procedure
After palpating the muscle under tension, injections are placed at several points on both sides. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.
Aftercare
After the treatment
Avoid vigorous chewing (e.g. gum) for the first few days. Mild tenderness in the masseter muscle is normal.
Risks and side effects
Temporary chewing weakness is possible if dosed too high, which is why dosing is stepwise and individualised. Mild swelling or bruising is possible.
Contraindications
Not suitable for certain neuromuscular disorders, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or for existing masseter muscle conditions without prior assessment.
Questions about the treatment
Frequently asked questions
How long until the jaw appears slimmer?
The contouring effect usually becomes visible after 4 to 8 weeks, as the muscle gradually reduces in size.
Does the treatment really help with grinding?
Many patients report significantly less nighttime grinding and tension. For pronounced bruxism, we also recommend a dental evaluation.
