Mechanism

How the treatment works

A medical needling device creates fine, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. We work with the Dermapen 4 MD — the version reserved for medical practices, which reaches a depth of three millimetres, whereas devices used cosmetically stay considerably shallower. The micro-injuries trigger a natural healing process that stimulates collagen and elastin formation.

Procedure

The treatment procedure

After cleansing the skin and applying a numbing cream, the treatment is carried out across the face. Needle depth is adjusted by area — shallower around the eyes than on the cheek. The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Aftercare

After the treatment

The skin appears red for the first few days, similar to mild sunburn. Sun protection is especially important in the following days.

Risks and side effects

Redness, mild swelling, and a feeling of tightness are common and subside within a few days. Rarely, pigmentation changes.

Contraindications

Not suitable for active skin infections, eczema in the treatment area, pregnancy without prior assessment, or a tendency toward keloid formation.

How many sessions are recommended?

For a visible result, we generally recommend a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

How does this differ from cosmetic microneedling?

Mainly needle depth. We work with the medical version of the device, which reaches three millimetres; devices used cosmetically stay considerably shallower. That makes shallow scarring and deeper structural change treatable — and which depth suits your skin is a medical judgement.
