Mechanism

How the treatment works

Poly-L-lactic acid is broken down by the body over months. During this breakdown, fibroblasts respond with increased collagen formation, building and firming the tissue from within. The volume therefore comes not from the product but from the body's own tissue — the reason for its characteristically natural progression.

The treatment procedure

The product is distributed across several planes, usually with a blunt cannula over larger areas. For the best results, two to three sessions about six weeks apart are recommended. A session takes approximately 45 minutes.

Aftercare

After the treatment

The treated area is massaged several times a day to a set routine in the first days — you will receive precise instructions afterwards. No sports, sauna, or tanning for 48 hours.

Risks and side effects

Swelling, redness, and bruising are possible in the first few days. Palpable nodules are a characteristic risk of this product, which is why the post-treatment massage routine should be followed consistently.

Contraindications

Not suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the presence of infection or inflammatory skin conditions in the treatment area, with known hypersensitivity to components of the product, with a tendency to keloid formation, or with certain autoimmune conditions.

Why do I have to massage after the treatment?

Massage distributes the product evenly through the tissue and reduces the risk of palpable nodules. With this method it is an integral part of aftercare; you will receive specific instructions covering frequency and duration.

How does Sculptra® differ from a hyaluronic acid treatment?

Hyaluronic acid creates volume immediately and is dissolvable. Sculptra® creates no volume of its own but stimulates the body's own collagen — the result develops more slowly, lasts longer, and cannot be dissolved. Which method suits depends on the findings and the desired progression.
